On Thursday, January 28th, Toyota Motor Sales USA is recalling 2.3 millions vehicles in the United States to fix the problem that is causing the gas pedal to stick.

This new recall has nothing to do with the gas pedal becoming stuck to the floor mats like the previous move that Toyota made that recalled roughly 4.2 million vehicles. That problem was blamed for several car accidents, that involved cars to reach up to 120 mph involuntarily, and several deaths.

This recall has nothing to do with the floor mats but the actual gas pedal mechanism because, regardless of the floor mat being present of not, the accelerator will still become stuck. In certain rare cases, the gas pedal mechanism wears down, making the accelerator become harder to press, slower to return, and become stuck.

Brian Lyons, a Toyota spokesman, claims that the automaker does not yet have a solution to this problem, but is currently trying to develop one.

John Hanson, another Toyota spokesman, said in the meantime, owners of ‘09-’10 Toyota’s can continue to drive their cars. The car maker wants to make people aware of the problems, and know what they should do if problems arise:

Drivers should not pump the brakes as this can deplete the brakes’ power assist. In the event the pedal becomes stuck, the vehicle can be brought under control with firm and steady application of the brakes, the automaker said.

The following vehicles involved in the recall are:

• 2009-2010 RAV4,

• 2009-2010 Corolla,

• 2009-2010 Matrix,

• 2005-2010 Avalon,

• 2007-2010 Camry,

• 2010 Highlander,

• 2007-2010 Tundra,

• 2008-2010 Sequoia

*The Camry Hybrid is not included in this recall.
