Over the past weekend, the students in Future Business Leaders of America at the Fort participated in district competitions at Stratford High School. Some of the events involved in this competition were taking business tests, business presentations, and business interviews. Schools from all over were in attendance at this competition including Fort Dorchester High School, Cane Bay High School, James Island High School, Oakbrook Middle School, Ashley Ridge High School, and many more. After competing at district, FBLA members have a chance to compete at the state level. Fort Dorchester High School had an overwhelming amount of students that placed in the top three of their respective competition events:
Lydell Simmons (Marketing) Chase Mizzell, Kevin Vertefeuille, and Chris Nagle (Business Ethics) Justin Fulcher, Thomas Kersting, and Brandon Rawlings (Emerging Business Issues) Jason Kinard (Networking Concepts) Elizabeth Samuels and Colleen Closson (Business Presentation) Marcus Backman (Accounting I) Lillian Rivers (Technology Concepts) Michael Grimes (Cyber Security) Zach Navitsky (Sports Management)
These FDHS students now have the opportunity to compete at state competitions held at the Embassy Suites in North Charleston. If these FBLA members are able to place in the top three of their subject areas as they did in district competitions, they will be able to participate at the national level. This year nationals are held in Nashville, Tennessee during the summer. Last year, the Fort had several students that were able to participate at the national level and traveled to California. With more students qualifying at districts this year, there is a better possibility that FDHS will have even more students to compete nationally this year.
