On November 5, 2010, Fort Dorchester High School football team played their last home game against Ashley Ridge. Before the game all the seniors were announced for senior night. The student section tried to show as much school spirit as possible. The idea was to get everyone to wear red and cheer on the team with pots, pans, and blow horns. Ashley Ridge was winning up until the last minute of the game. Fort Dorchester won 40 to 33 that night letting them go to playoffs. Their first playoff game is against Stratford High school.
Speaking with one of the students in the student section, Makayla Hartley, said, “In the last minute of the game I prayed for us to score a touchdown. Five seconds later Fort scored the touchdown I asked for, it was like a miracle.”
Everyone seems to be proud of the football players and know they did their best that night. The students pray for them to win against Stratford and Dorman High School to allow them to go to state.

As of now basketball cheerleading tryouts are in progress. Freshman,Sophomores,Juniors and Seniors are excited for this years cheerleading season. If you didn’t make football cheerleading than this is your second chance. Cheeleading is not all about the flips, jumps or chants that they do, it’s about the love you have for your school , and the spirit that you can show. In order to make the team you must have a good discipline plan, at least a “C” average, skills , and most importantly FDHS Spirit. If you are interested in trying out you must have a physical. Tryouts will be held November 15-18 2010 @ 3:30-5:30 in the cafeteria. Good luck!

To some members of the Cross Country team, this sport is more than just running. Some run because they like it and they want to keep in shape for Track, and others run Track to keep in shape for Cross Country. The members of the Women’s Cross Country team are as follows: Autumn Stone(V), Olivia Brazier(V), Allina Moultrie(V), Sara Vargo(V), Elizabeth Samuels(V), Jessica Ford(V), and Allison Sorrenson(V),Khabo Beresford(JV), Harley Heron(JV), Hannah Holt(JV), Breanna Lands(JV), Bianca LaPaz(JV), Emily Lissimore(JV), Sofia Lopez(JV), Gabby Pate(JV), and Christy Waters(JV).
Their best times are: Stone–21.38, Brazier–21.42, Moultrie–22.27, Vargo–23.42, Samuels–23.42, Ford–just coming back from an injury, and Sorrenson–23.35. Their next coming meet is on this upcoming Wednesday, October 6, at Bishop England.

Members of the women’s Cross Country team are always trying their best to better their times and build better stamina for the next race. Stone said, “I run for fun and I am proud of it.”

Soon they will be doing Track and working to keep in shape for next year. They will try their hardest when they run for State. We will be cheering them on in one way or another.
The shoes they wear are for better grip and arch support. The clothes they wear are to help them run against the wind and not have their clothing flopping all over the place. So there’s the women’s Cross Country team, trying to win us the title.

As we all know, basketball seaon is on its way and many are ready for the challenges that are tagging along. Last year Fort Dorchester lost to Summerville High, but revenge is coming this year with full force. Students all over the school are preparing for this years 2010-2011 Basketball Season; taking weight training daily and focusing on grades. Basketball is not just about running up and down a court throwing a ball into a basket, it’s about the hard work that you put into the sport and the love you have for it. There are many requirements for playing in this years season. You must have at least a “C” average, skills on the court, a positive attitude and, most importantly, a clean discipline record. Most students are excited for the competition this year and ready to take down any school. One of this years goals are to get to state and that goal can only be reached with the faith and hope to acheive it. If you are interested in playing basketball this season, conditioning starts Monday, October 4, 2010.

” Honestly, I don’t know why basketball is my favorite sport. I’ve had love for the sport since i was 5″.
” The best thing about the sport is the feeling i get when im in the game”. – Dexter Doyle

” Basketball is my #1, because it helps you focus and bring out your inner strength”.
” The toughest thing about the sport is making the tough shots and making the winning shots”. – A.J Murray

Although the game against Summerville and Fort Dorchester was two weeks ago, it was a highly anticipated game. Banners were hung around the school to promote the game, specialized t-shirts were sold, and there were specific games to see who has the most spirit for the football game. The stands were filled for the game, to see which team would be the winner, and the game ended Summerville-28, Fort Dorchester-21.
David Govan, a Fort varsity football player, said that the team was “well prepared for the game and thought they had played a good game”. When asked his thoughts on the loss he stated “I was amazed and mad because we came so close to winning, but we didn’t”. In my interview with him I asked him, from his perspective how his fellow teammates felt about the game he said “People were mad and some emotional because they won’t get the chance to play against Summerville next year at Fort”. He also replied, when asked, if he had thought everyone had played to the best of their abilities, said “Yes and no because we could have won the game”. My final question during the interview was what’s the team’s game plan to beat Summerville next year? He answered by stating “same as last”.
Many Fort fans were disappointed at the outcome of the game, but stated that they believed that the team played a great game and could win in the future. Another fan said that “The team was very determined and skilled, even if the game did not happen the way the team wanted it to.” With many fans having high hopes for future Fort vs. Summerville games the main question that seems to be on most of my interviewers minds is how will Fort come from future games triumphantly?
